Both in Calcutta University and in Bangalore University I came across two huge and extremely rich libraries and saw the collection of the rarest books in Sanskrit mainly the translated works of scholars from other countries mainly from Europe and mostly from Germany. But when started going to every nook and corner I found myself wrong. There are good numbers of books written by Indian scholars which can be the assets of any big library of any nation. The reason is as been told by me earlier also, Sanskrit is the Sutra to connect the past with future through the modern era. This is nothing but the medium of knowledge as the purpose of any language. Can we imagine painting a picture without a brush? Can we think about knitting a cloth without a needle? Is it possible to write without a pen? The purpose of any language is same, to come across those things, may be History of the civilization, may be science or whatever written in that particular language. The purpose of knowing Sanskrit is nothing other than that.
We better not take the language as a subject, to know the subject knowing the medium is obvious. To know our past, to know what was the advice given by Lord Krishna to Arjuna during the biggest battle of his life, what the law is saying regarding the distribution of paternal property among the two children of two wives of a man, the use of ‘ 0 ‘ in mathematics, the application of the scientific theory behind the solar and the lunar eclipse and many more, the ancient books written by our Rishis are the mile stones. As the general idea we, most of the Indians are having that, Sanskrit is a dead language !!! can be challenged. The new generation can dig up lot more treasures from our past through the support of the mother of language.
